I studied politics, expecting a career in policy. A stretch in Washington DC made it unbelievably clear that it wasn't the life I wanted, so I left — drove west in my '96 Volvo with no savings and zero plan, and spent the next stretch hustling through any job I could find, organic grocery stores, coffee bars, nightclubs, teaching yoga... until fate finally put a camera in my hands.
It was never really a journey to photography, though. It was about figuring out what I actually loved — and it turned out to be simpler than I expected: people, and watching them come alive through their passions.
That's the thread that runs through all of it, really. My path wasn’t a straight line — it was a consistent refusal to perform a life that wasn't mine. Somewhere along the way, I realized that's the only thing I actually know how to chase: what's truly real, in myself, and in other people.
Whatever you're building, I'd rather help you capture the version of it that's true than the version that just looks good. It’s the true stories that stick with you longest and are the most powerful.
MY APPROACH

I'm not chasing a technically perfect frame. I'm chasing the moment someone stops performing and starts actually being themselves. For me, that's the whole job, and it's why I still love doing it.
On a shoot, I'll give direction when it's useful and get out of the way the second it isn't. Most people relax faster moving than posing, so that's usually where I start.
You'll leave with photos that look like your actual life, not a studio's idea of one.

You do not need to know how to pose, perform, or act natural on command. I come prepared, offer clear direction when it helps, and create enough room for real expressions and unexpected moments to emerge.
Every assignment asks for something different. A wedding may call for quiet observation. A portrait may need more guidance. Surf, yoga, and dynamic action shots each have their own rhythm. My job is to understand what matters, adapt to the moment, and create visuals that feel true to the people and experience behind them.
