SAN DIEGO YOGA & WELLNESS PHOTOGRAPHY

For Yogis

Most people freeze the second a camera shows up to their mat — worried they're not bendy enough, not "yoga-body" enough, about to look silly mid-transition. I get it, because I actually practice too, and you look nothing like you think you do in your head. My job isn't catching you frozen in a perfect shape. It's catching you in the true essence of the practice, breathing, living, and being.

I Taught This, Before I Ever Photographed It

Before I ever picked up a camera for this kind of work, I was the one at the front of the room — cueing breath, watching twenty different bodies find twenty different versions of the same pose, learning to see the difference between someone pushing into something real and someone performing what they think a "good" pose is supposed to look like. That distinction isn't small. It's basically the whole job now, just from behind a lens instead of in front of a class.

A camera doesn't know what it's looking at. It captures whatever's in front of it — a shape that's alive or a shape that's hollow, and it genuinely can't tell the difference. I can. I know when a breath is held for the camera versus when it's actually part of the flow. I know the pose that's about to open up versus the one that's still guarding something. That's not a technical skill you pick up studying yoga photography online. It's something closer to instinct, and the only reason I have it is because I spent real time teaching people to find that opening in themselves — not just their bodies.

“What stands out most is his balance of intelligence and humility. His expertise is evident in every conversation — he clearly knows his craft inside and out — yet he approaches every session with curiosity, openness, and a genuine desire for you to succeed.”
